Lata Mangeshkar Biography, Age And Bhajan List

In this article we will discuss about the legend Lata Mangeshkar who is also referred as ‘Nightingale of india’

Lata Mangeshkar was a great singer with a melodious and God gifted voice. She was so devoted and dedicated towards her work and music. One of the most adaptable singers in the Indian movie industry was Lata Mangeshkar, also referred to as the “Nightingale of India.”

Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, a classical vocalist and theatre performer, and Shevanti welcomed Lata into the world on September 28, 1929, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Early on, her father began instructing her in music. Lata began acting in plays her father had written by the time she was five years old. Meena, Asha, Usha, and Hridaynath, four of her siblings, are all outstanding singers and musicians.

When she was only five years old, she started singing and performing in her father Deenanath Mangeshkar’s musical productions. When the teacher requested her to stop offering music lessons to other students on her first day of school, she felt so hurt that she determined never to return to school. Other versions claim that she dropped out of school because her younger sister Asha would accompany her there every day, which the school found objectionable.

Lata received vocal lessons from her father, a classical singer who also managed a theatre business, when she was five years old. Aman Ali Khan Sahib and Amanat Khan were among her teachers. She was able to effortlessly master vocal exercises in one take thanks to her God-given musical talents.

The family also included sisters Meena, Asha (the renowned Asha Bhosle), and Usha as well as brother Hridaynath, a music director. Lekin…, a soundtrack by Hridaynath, was published in 1990 by EMI India. Although many members of her family contributed songs to the album, Lata was the star. Usha Bhosle, who went by the stage name Asha Bhosle, is the only performer whose work can be in any way compared to her sister’s award-winning output (although by a small margin).

Career Of Lata Mangeshkar

When Lata Mangeshkar was just 13 years old, her father passed away from heart disease, leaving her as the family’s lone provider. In the 1940s, she struggled to become a successful singer and recorded her debut song for the Marathi film Kiti Hasaal (1942). Later, the song was dropped from the film.

After relocating to Mumbai in 1945, she had her first significant success with the song “Aayega aanewala” from the film Mahal (1949), which led to her being one of the most in-demand voices in Hindi cinema. Master Vinayak, a family friend of the Mangeshkars who was caring for them after the father’s passing, offered her a small part in his debut Hindi movie, Badi Maa, in 1945.

For Vasant Joglekar’s Marathi film Kiti Hasaal, Lata performed the Sadashivrao Nevrekar song “Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari” (1942). But it wasn’t included in the final version. Following this, Vinayak gave her a small part in the Marathi film “Pahili Mangalaa-gaur (1942)” directed by Navyug Chitrapat. She performed Dada Chandekar’s composition “Natali Chaitraachi Navalaai.”
